<<18th January, 2018 – Hong Kong>> It’s no secret that Bourbon, a whiskey that can only be produced in the United States, is America’s favourite spirit. Uncompromising since 1855, Wild Turkey has established itself as a truly iconic American brand, with its distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky attracting whiskey aficionados and industry veterans from all over the world.
On 29 & 30 January, Eddie Russell, Wild Turkey Bourbon Master Distiller and a Kentucky Bourbon Hall-of-Famer, will fly to Hong Kong to host a two-day-exclusive showcase of Wild Turkey Bourbon’s distilling, aging and production processes. A trailblazer and noted legend in the industry, Eddie is the son of Wild Turkey Bourbon Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell and brings the time honoured American culture of drinking Bourbon to Hong Kong.
Road to Wild Turkey with Master Distiller Eddie Russell
In 1981, Eddie Russell joined Wild Turkey and followed in his father’s (and grandfather’s) footsteps by starting out at the bottom as a relief operator. Putting in decades of toil and study, Eddie represented the next generation of distillers that appeal to the tastes of the growing international market and a new, younger generation of Bourbon lovers. Together, Eddie and his father carry almost 100 years of combined experience in Bourbon making, and both have collaborated in the making of award-winning Bourbons including Russell’s Reserve 10 Year Old in 1998, Wild Turkey 81 in 2009, and most recently, Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary, a once-in-a-lifetime blend of 13- and 16- year old whiskies for Jimmy’s 60th anniversary at Wild Turkey Distillery.
For the first time, Eddie will share the story behind his legendary craftsmanship in Hong Kong with bar professionals, media and Bourbon enthusiasts. On 29 & 30 January, Eddie will lead a mini Wild Turkey Bourbon trail through Hong Kong’s best-loved bars, including Lily & Bloom, The Old Man, Stockton and Brickhouse. During his masterclasses, guests will receive an exclusive crash course in the production of Wild Turkey at Stockton as well as a 360-degree experience consisting of a Bourbon-paired food tasting at Lily & Bloom, a special media tasting at The Old Man, and a street party at Brickhouse.

ABOUT WILD TURKEY
The Distillery for Wild Turkey Bourbon is located in Kentucky, situated on a deep limestone shelf on the Kentucky River. The shelf acts as a natural filter and provides the distillery with crystal clear water, vital to making such a high quality product. The whiskey is fermented for 72 hours. Wild Turkey features the legendary father and son Master Distilling team of Jimmy and Eddie Russell, who have over 90 years of combined experience making Bourbon.
The famous Wild Turkey brand name first came about back in 1940 when distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took a few warehouse samples on a Wild Turkey hunting trip with a group of friends. The following year, his friends asked him for “some of that Wild Turkey whiskey” and the brand was born.
Wild Turkey is distilled and put into new oak barrels at a much lower ABV than most Bourbons. This results in a much richer flavour, as less water needs to be added because of the lower proof. Ageing in the highest quality new American oak barrels with the heaviest char available (the Number 4 “alligator” char), imparts a smooth flavour and deep amber colour to the whiskey. Wild Turkey is one of only a few Bourbons to use this expensive, deep char.
The barrels are filled at the distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
