<<30th December, 2016 – Hong Kong>> Attire House, co-founded by Brandon Chau and Roger Chan, introduces a modern take on classic men’s tailoring and grooming to Hong Kong’s most distinguished gentlemen. This unique haven draws inspiration from a modern gentleman’s home and houses a menswear outfitter, barbershop and cocktail bar all under the same roof. Attire House aims to provide a modern and global perspective on classic menswear through showcasing the work of some of the world’s finest artisans from London, Paris, Naples and Tokyo.
Designed by Japanese architect Jin Hidaka, Attire’s decor recreates the traditional old-world ambience of a private club, masterfully blending European themes with Eastern sensibilities. Now, Attire House is thrilled to announce the opening of BAR DE LUXE, a 1,500 sq. ft. Japanese cocktail bar in Hong Kong that has been brought to life by Ueno Hidetsugu, the legendary mixologist and owner of Tokyo’s internationally-renowned cocktail mecca, BAR HIGH FIVE.
Ueno-san’s protégé, Yuriko Naganuma, has moved from Tokyo to spearhead the long anticipated launch of Bar De Luxe as Head Bartender. Her vast experiences and mastery of bartending will be on show at Bar de Luxe with each cocktail she serves – no doubt tweaked and tailored to her exceptionally high standards. Yuriko originally engaged in the craft as a means to earn some extra income while studying, but as soon as she started mixing cocktails, it become clear that she possessed an innate talent for combining flavours. Upon completing her photography course, she immediately knew that she wanted to go back to school to study bartending, which she pursued for two years in Tokyo. During her studies, Yuriko-san began catching the eye of the bartending community through student mixology competitions. Once the course was completed, Takao Mori, the great master bartender, approached her and offered her a position at one of his bars. Under his steady guidance, she learned valuable lessons and honed her craft.
Yuriko further strengthened her reputation and brought her skills to the next level through taking part in international competitions, winning various awards during trips to Paris, Bordeaux and Singapore for the Bartender’s Seminar. During this time, Yuriko sought mentorship from none other than legendary bartender Hidetsugu Ueno of BAR HIGH FIVE, staying by his side from Melbourne to Tokyo. When it came time for Ueno-san to choose the Head Bartender for his Hong Kong project BAR DE LUXE, Yuriko was his obvious first choice.
Guests have the option of sampling one of the signature cocktails that Yuriko has concocted exclusively for Bar De Luxe such as The Hidden Gem with Nikka from the Barrel Whisky, Japanese Yomogi Herb Liqueur, Averna Amaro, Sugarcane Sugar Syrup (HK$168) or simply ordering a drink from the bar’s range of specially curated, rare and exceptional wines and spirits. In addition, Yuriko mixes bespoke creations based on individual tastes and moods. Take a sip of Full Bloom, and experience Japan’s most gorgeous spring phenomenon on your tastebuds. The drink combines either Kirin Fuji Sanroku Whisky (HK$178) or Bulldog Gin London Dry (HK$158), with bespoke cherry blossom liqueur, Luxardo Maraschino, and lemon juice or homemade roasted tea bitters. Switch up your cocktail game with Misty (HK$148), an intriguing sake cocktail created with Nanbu Bijin Sake, 6100 vodka, DOM benedictine and honey liqueur. An exquisite take on the classic negroni, Black Negroni (HK$158) is a mix of Bulldog London Dry Gin, Carpano Antica Formula and Fernet Branca. Savour these drinks and many more alongside a variety of light bar bites, including Iberico Grand Cru Huelva Jabugo (25g/HK$98, 50g/HK$168, 100g/HK$318), BonBons Lomo (Pork Loin) with Foie Gras (HK$168), cheese and olives, among others.
Take a seat at the luxurious bar crafted with Japanese walnut, and watch the mixologists work their magic. Alternatively, relax at one of the intimate window tables and enjoy the panoramic view of Hong Kong’s magnificent skyline.
“Let me just say, Ueno-san is living legend in the word of mixology and cocktail bars. Not only is he and BAR HIGH FIVE my favorite bar in the world, but I could only imagine how many people have approached him to do a project overseas. I flew to Tokyo several times to persuade him to open a bar together in Hong Kong – and turns out, around the fifth time was the charm. I kept telling him there was no “Plan B”. Of course, the effort was well worth it, and we are so excited for Hong Kong to finally get a taste of what they’ve been missing out on in Tokyo.” says co-founder, Roger Chan.
“Attire House is absolutely the first of its kind here in Hong Kong. This is a place for the cosmopolitan gentleman with discerning tastes to call home. Where better to introduce such a concept than in the gastronomy, travel and luxury lifestyle mecca of Hong Kong?” says co-founder, Brandon Chau.
Bar De Luxe is now open for drinks and snacks every day from noon onwards.
Please note that Mr Hidetsugu Ueno of Tokyo’s Bar High Five will be visiting Hong Kong from 22 – 25 January, 2017, and will be the resident mixologist at Bar De Luxe from 23 – 25 January during evenings periods.
