<<11th May, 2022 – Hong Kong>> One MICHELIN-starred CHAAT at Rosewood Hong Kong, the city’s pioneering modern Indian restaurant, presents a special Anglo-Indian inspired dinner menu available exclusively for one night only on Thursday, 2 June 2022. The menu commemorates the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation on 2 June 1953 and features eight courses of Anglo-Indian dishes that were introduced during British colonial rule in India, a time when Indian food created a lasting impact on English cuisine.
Chef de Cuisine Manav Tuli (Tatler Dining by Hong Kong Tatler’s Chef of the Year 2022) brings to life Anglo-Indian dishes with a rich history that dates back to the mid-18thcentury. During this period, East India Company traders brought recipes for curries and other flavourful Indian staples back to England, which were then heavily altered to suit English palates. The delectable Anglo-Indian cuisine became popular throughout the country, born from history and cultural amalgamation.
The Queen’s Coronation Anglo-Indian Tasting Menu is priced at HKD1,288 per person features elevated Anglo-Indian inspired favourites such as Mulligatawny Soup with mint and cumin, Coronation Guinea Fowl Tikka with Kashmiri chilli and coronation dressing, Chicken Balti with bell pepper, cumin and turmeric, and Railway Lamb Curry with potato, coconut and curry leaf. The curries are complemented with sides of Bombay Potato with mustard, ginger and tomato, Dal Fry, Barishta Pulao, Pomegranate Raita, and guests’ choice of Naan (plain, garlic or butter.) The meal concludes with Baked Rice Pudding, an Indian-spiced classic dessert with cinnamon cake and caramelised nuts.

CHAAT is the Hindi term “to lick,” and as such invites guests to transport themselves across the Indian peninsula with an upscale menu for diners to savour every last morsel. At CHAAT, Chef de Cuisine Manav Tuli re-imagines his favourite traditional street snacks from his childhood growing up in central India, which includes his hearty homemade Paneer Cheese and Pav Bhaji. Utilising a trio of authentic tandoor ovens, the colourful menu pays homage to the rich and varied culinary lexicon of India’s central states and Bombay coast, the northern Punjab and Kerala in the south. CHAAT’s convivial atmosphere revives the feeling of India’s much-loved social bazaars, where families, friends and new acquaintances gather over a shared love of food and conversation.
