<<6th July, 2021 – Hong Kong>> Inspired by the Tokusatsu Japanese live action series of the 1960’s that saw giant Kaiju monsters facing off at immense heights against Kyodai heroes, MUSUBI HIRO is the towering new hero that brings a modern twist on old-school Japanese fare. Packing punches full of flavor and imagination, MUSUBI HIRO presents an epic yet down-to-earth menu of made-to-order musubi creations (up to 10 varieties) and re-imagined izakaya-style snacks (up to 10 varieties) with vegan- and vegetarian-friendly options, along with plenty of sake, cocktails and craft beer on tap.

Japanese culinary culture has travelled and adapted through time and space, taking on distinctive local flavors and traditions. The birth of the beloved spam-musubi is one such example – Hawaii’s ultra-popular take on the humble Japanese onigiri (rice ball). Beyond serving the ultimate spam-musubi, MUSUBI HIRO brings to life a variety of musubi recipes – from vegetarian and deep-fried options to those inspired by Hong Kong’s unique local flavors, along with bar snacks and an entire menu of special sauces and toppings for customization. All recipes and dishes are developed by Arturo Sims, working closely together with Indian Chef, Chetan Kohli.
Signature MUSUBI creations include the Classic Musubi (HK$68), which features spam marinated in special sauce packed between layers of top-quality Japanese koshihikari rice seasoned with sushi vinegar, homemade furikake, and wrapped with premium Japanese nori; Super Mega Musubi (HK$108) – surely not for the faint-hearted, this monster-musubi is encased in a crispy outer coating of a popular mystery ingredient; Torched Eel Musubi (HK$118), a classic and delightful pairing of local eel and rice drizzled with sweet sauce; OMG Sea Urchin Musubi (HK$208) piled high with an “OMG”-inducing amount of Japanese sea urchin; and Wagyu & Truffle Musubi (HK$158), a pairing made in heaven between soft, fatty wagyu and earthy seasonal black truffle.
Signature SNACKS include Chicken Wings & Shishito Peppers (HK$78), featuring juicy chicken wings followed by palate-cleansing bites of bitter shishito peppers; Hiro Panipuri Pops (HK$28 each), a crunchy and addicting panipuri shell filled with savory minced meat with secret mix of spices; Crab in a Bag (HK$58), a refreshing snack of cold minced crab; and Truffle Egg Potato Salad (HK$68), a Japanese-style potato salad infused with aromatic truffle.
For those who wish to dine without having to choose what to order, the LET HIRO FEED YOU menu (HK$388) includes 2 full-sized musubi and 3 snacks to share per guest. With so many options to choose from, first-timers are advised to sit back, relax, and let HIRO team do all the work!
MUSUBI HIRO also serves a variety of creative casual cocktails, including the signature Miyagikyo Tea Highball (HK$135) with premium Japanese Saicho Sparkling Tea and Nikka Miyagikyo Whisky, Hiro Negroni (HK$98) and Hiro Wasake Sour (H$88). Sake options include Hiro Sake Dry (HK$148/250ml carafe), and Hiro Sake Off-Dry (HK$148/250ml), in addition to Brooklyn Brewery Pint of the Month (HK$78) for beer lovers.
MUSUBI HIRO’s Interior Design by Local Young Artists
Situated beneath the escalators at the junction of Cochrane Street, Gage Street, and Lyndhurst Terrace, the multi-leveled 50-seater gastropub is a lively new drinking den with an interactive dining format.
Descend the steps to the lower bar and find the Musubi Hiro wall, adorned with retro Ultraman posters and hand-pasted holographic Musubi Hiro stickers. MUSUBI HIRO will reward guests who are able to find the 1 upside-down Musubi Hiro sticker on the wall with a special prize. Additionally, anyone who buys a round of shots for the whole bar will receive a personal tribute of themselves painted on the wall by young artists from Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI).
Accepting the epic challenge of heroic preservation vs. monstrous destruction, the interiors are cleverly designed by young local Hong Kong talent, Quill Wong. Mural art sets the scene inside and outside the restaurant, giving every diner the opportunity to enjoy the dramatic views of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline and major landmarks designed and crafted in a humorous fashion by the emerging local talents from the HKDI.
MUSUBI HIRO is now officially open for dine-in dinner and takeaway 7 days per week from Saturday, 3rd July, between 6pm-11:30pm on Sundays-Wednesdays, and 6pm-2am on Thursdays-Saturdays. Lunch will shortly commence this month of July 2021. Bookings and walk-ins are both accepted.
