<<25th October 2019 – Hong Kong>> Giando Restaurant invites guests to celebrate the 15th anniversary of renowned Italian Chef Gianni Caprioli in Hong Kong. To mark this momentous occasion, Chef Gianni looks back on 15 exciting years (arrived since 15th March 2004) in the city he now calls home to create a seasonal anniversary menu available for a limited time only.
Nestled in a quiet corner of Wan Chai Star Street, Giando delivers a fine modern Italian dining experience that is based on Chef Caprioli’s extensive world travels and colourful life experiences. While the menu incorporates ingredients not always found in traditional Italian kitchens, Giando stays true to its Italian heritage through Gianni’s strong Italian values from his family and reverence for his native country Italy. Giando only sources its ingredients from Italy’s best boutique wineries, artisan producers and small family farms. Known for homemade pastas, spectacular risottos, sustainable fresh seafood and delicious range of dolce, over the past 15 years, Giando has maintained a firm favourite for lovers of authentic Italian cuisine.
Chef Gianni Caprioli’s 15th Anniversary Menu
Priced at HK$898 + 10% per guest, the 15th Anniversary Menu by Chef Gianni Caprioli presents six courses of Giando’s finest seasonal, based on some of Giando’s most popular dishes over the years. Reflecting the restaurant’s strong devotion to high-quality ingredients from the day it opened its doors over 15 years ago, the menu highlights ingredients from luscious fruits and vegetables from Agro T18 Italian wholesaler in Grugliasco, Torino, to organic free-range eggs from Fattoria Roberti egg farm located in Bedizzole, Brescia.
Highlights include the seared scallop wrapped with guanciale, an Italian cured meat product prepared from pork jowl, which sits on a bed of corn puree served with Italian clams and black truffle sauce. Revered for its authentic homemade pastas, Giando showcases an ultra-rich egg tagliolini served in a quintessential Italian “Aglio e Olio” style, topped with decadent raw sea urchin and bottarga. For your main, choose between the Mediterranean seabassthat flakes with a touch, lightly breaded and served with a bright and zesty Romanesco-style sauce of fresh broccoli, olives and orange; or the beef sirloin tagliata with braised sweet onion and herb sauce. End the meal on a high with “Giandoiotto” vanilla hazelnut chocolate mousse served with hazelnut ice cream.

About Gianni Caprioli
Hailing from Potenza and a family of cooks, Gianni began his career in his brother’s restaurant whilst training at a hotel school in San Marino. There, he honed his skilled in homemade pasta making and Romagna-style cooking. He worked under Chef Gino at the Grand Hotel des Bains in Riccione, then began managing and training staff for the famous Rex’s group of restaurants in the United States for their venues in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., which earned him a reputation for providing professional consultancy.
On his return to Riccione in 1997, he worked with another of Italy’s most revered and innovative chefs, Gianfranco Vissani at Ristorante Azzurra. His association with Italy’s rich and famous was established in 1998 while cooking for exclusive resort hotels including Hotel Oberosler, Dolci Hotels and Castello di Montegridolfo. In 2000, he left for Los Angeles to open the famous Osteria Angelini. It was here that his skills were discovered by Gianni Agnelli – owner and pioneer of Italian Automobile (FIAT) manufacturing based in Turin – who then took him on as his personal chef.
Fast forward to today, Chef Gianni currently owns and operates 3 restaurants (Giando, Gia Trattoria Italiana, Fishsteria) and Mercato by Giando, a gourmet retail market of his own with 3 more locations and an online store coming soon in Hong Kong. They all stay true to his philosophy: the best food is made with simple, fresh, quality ingredients and their origins matter. Finding, cooking and serving the best produce with true passion and love is at the heart of what he does every day.
