    <<14th March, 2018 – Hong Kong>> As part of the UK government’s global GREAT Britain Campaign and to celebrate the GREAT Festival of Innovation in Hong Kong, the British Consulate-General partners with the city’s top restaurants and chefs, and the Wine & Spirit Trade Association, to showcase the spectacular range and quality of Britain’s delectable produce. The Food is GREAT campaign kicks off from 21 March in 18 restaurants across Hong Kong. Participating restaurants include Gough’s on Gough, acclaimed British designer Timothy Oulton’s first restaurant venture; Mandarin Grill & Bar, the reputed Michelin 1-star restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong; Grand Hyatt Steakhouse, Hong Kong’s most storied steakhouse; Rhoda, a cosy eatery that boasts honest and bold food cooked over wood fire and charcoal; and London House, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s second venture in Hong Kong, among others.

    From 21 March – 2 April, guests will delight in a special Great British Tasting Menu or Dishes crafted by the respective chefs of each participating restaurant that highlights the most stunning British produce available. In addition, all guests dining on the Great British Menu at any partnering restaurant can enter a competition to win a trip for two to the UK. Simply snap a photo of your experience, tag @TradeGovUKHK and the restaurant, add hashtag #GreatBritishMenuHK, share it on Instagram, and the best post will be chosen by the UK Department for International Trade in Hong Kong to receive 1) a pair of round-trip tickets to the UK courtesy of British Airways, 2) a two-night stay at South Lodge Hotel in Sussex and 3) a vineyard tour and tasting close to the hotel at Ridgeview.

    Great British Menus for the “Food is GREAT” Campaign: 21 March – 2 April

    From 21 March – 2 April, all partnering chefs and restaurants for the Food is GREAT campaign have committed to using British produce for a special Great British Menu, sourcing some of the finest seafood and meat from respected family farms across the Isles. Gourmet hamburger restaurant Beef & Libertywill be serving up a classic Bacon Cheeseburger with Scottish beef patty and British Dingley Dell bacon; Grand Hyatt Steak House will be serving up a special Welsh Rhug Estate organic Striploin and Rib-Eye; Gough’s on Gough a roast sirloin of Devonshire beef, roast British pork belly, and a British cheese platter; and Rhoda a Langley Chase Organic Farm Manx Loaghtan lamb ham, fruit pig black pudding Scotch egg, smoked mushroom ravioli with snails from Dorset, Wicks Manor Farm pork belly and cottage pie with Huntsham Court Farm Long Horn beef.

    Wine & Spirit Trade Association Hosts English Wine & British Gin Tastings

    On 22 and 23 March, the Wine & Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) will host a special wine and gin tasting event that features some of the biggest names in wine-making and gin production. The WSTA is the UK body of the wine & spirits industry, representing over 300 companies in producing, importing, transporting and selling wines and spirits. On 22 March, the tasting event will be open to media and trade from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at Porterhouse in Lan Kwai Fong, and from 4pm to 6pm on 23 March at Berry Bros & Rudd.

    Distinguished English wine brands will be present on both days, including official suppliers of No. 10 Downing Street such as Chapel Down, currently one of the biggest producers of English sparkling wine, and Ridgeview, a second-generation family vineyard and winery. Rebecca Hanford, the founder of Furleigh Estate will also be present to showcase her award-winning sparkling and still wines made from grapes grown in Dorset. Gin varieties will include Brighton Gin presented by the founder, Kathy Caton, Cotswold Distillery by founder and winner of the best craft producer in the 2018 Icons of Whisky Awards, Dan Szor, and Christian Jensen, one of the pioneers of the London craft gin renaissance, will present his eponymous Jensen’s Gin.

    Wine & Spirits Trade Association

    The WSTA is the UK organisation for the wine and spirit industry, representing over 300 companies producing, importing, transporting and selling wine and spirits. The WSTA works with its members to promote responsible production, marketing and sale of alcohol.

    In addition to this, the WSTA is active in helping its members explore and take advantage of export opportunities. The organisation has worked overseas to host and support a number of events attended by importers, distributors, and on- and off-trade retail buyers, and has worked with UK embassies abroad to promote its members’ products.
